OTX-West works closely with the OUSD Technical Services Division. In addition to providing more than 1000 complete computer systems to Oakland schools every year, OTX-West served as a resource for technical projects and services. OTX-West has provided an invaluable assortment of donated equipment and parts to schools. In addition, through the take home computer program, any 6th through 12th grade student in Oakland is eligible to receive a free computer.
OTXWest provides training to families of students who participate in the Urban Math project of Oakland Unified School District. Students receive Internet ready computers that allow them to use the wide range of webbased math software made available through this OUSD project.
A collaborative project between OUSD and California State University-Hayward that focuses on academic success for the OUSD Class of 2005. Project SOAR is funded by the U.S. Department of Education GEAR UP initiative. OTX-West distributed more than 2000 computers to Project SOAR families out of 3000 families in the cohort.
The successful Project SOAR I has lead to an additional Gearup project supporting the class of 2011. OTXWest is providing home computers, family training and technical support to any student in this class. OTXWest has also developed and delivered multimedia training (Digital Story Telling) to over 300 Project SOAR student through summer workshops.
Streettech is a nonprofit organization providing technical job training to low income East Bay residents. Streettech students volunteer at OTXWest to increase their hands on skills and earn computers that help with their technical training.
A project of the OUSD Office of Instructional Technology designed to support the work of high school History and English teachers by providing access to appropriate technology tools and professional development opportunities. Urban Dreams provides funding for the high school home compute program.
